National Park Highlights
Krka National Park is one of Croatia's most visited natural wonders — a dramatic river canyon carved through karst limestone, adorned with seventeen thundering waterfalls and a remarkable diversity of plant and animal life.
Iconic Waterfall
The crown jewel of Krka National Park, Skradinski Buk is a spectacular travertine cascade spanning 800 metres and dropping 45 metres across seventeen individual falls. The surrounding wooden boardwalk loops through the mist and forest, offering views from every angle of this natural masterpiece.

Hidden Gem
Roški Slap is the park's second great waterfall system, less visited than Skradinski Buk but equally dramatic. Nearby, a short boat ride leads to the tiny island of Visovac, home to a 15th-century Franciscan monastery that rises from the still lake like a painting.

Nature & Wildlife
The Krka canyon is a biodiversity hotspot, home to over 860 plant species, 200 bird species, and 18 species of fish. Walking the canyon trails reveals ancient watermills, submerged ruins, and the extraordinary travertine formations that have been building for thousands of years.

Responsible Travel
Krka receives over a million visitors a year. Visiting in May, June, or September dramatically reduces your impact and gives you an experience far more connected to nature than the peak-summer rush.
The wooden boardwalk network is designed to protect the fragile travertine ecosystem. Never step off the marked path — travertine is alive and can be permanently damaged by foot traffic.
Swimming is no longer permitted in the park's protected zones. Respect this restriction — it exists to protect the delicate flora and fauna that make Krka extraordinary.
Perfect Timing
Krka in spring and autumn is a completely different — and far superior — experience compared to the crowded summer months. This is when the park reveals its true natural grandeur.
April - June
Waterfalls at peak flow, wildflowers, emerald canyon greenery
September - October
Golden canyon colours, cooler air, fewer crowds, mist on the water
Spring snowmelt swells the Krka River, sending Skradinski Buk and Roški Slap into their most thunderous and impressive state
In July and August the boardwalks are shoulder-to-shoulder. In May or September you can stand alone at the falls and genuinely hear the water
National park entry fees are reduced outside the peak summer window, making a shoulder-season visit both better and cheaper
Cooler temperatures make exploring the canyon trails a pleasure rather than a challenge — ideal for longer walks and photography
Birds are most active during spring migration and autumn departure — the best times for birdwatching in the canyon
The boat trips to Visovac Island and Roški Slap run with smaller groups and greater flexibility in the shoulder season
Shoulder season at Krka is quieter, wilder, and more genuinely awe-inspiring — the canyon belongs to you, the birdsong, and the sound of the falls.
