Nature Park Highlights
Rising dramatically from the Makarska Riviera to a summit of 1,762 metres, Biokovo Nature Park is one of Croatia's most accessible and spectacular mountain landscapes — a place where the Adriatic coast and the Dinaric Alps meet in breathtaking fashion.
Iconic Attraction
Perched at 1,228 metres above sea level, the Biokovo Skywalk is a glass-floored viewing platform that extends over the sheer cliff face. Standing above the clouds with the Adriatic sea, the Makarska Riviera, and the islands of Hvar and Brač spread below you is one of the most extraordinary experiences in Croatia.

Summit Challenge
The summit of Sveti Jure is the second highest peak in Croatia and the highest point of the Biokovo massif. A marked trail leads to the top, rewarded by a 360-degree panorama that on clear days stretches to the mountains of Bosnia and even the Italian Apennines across the Adriatic.

Unique Ecosystem
Biokovo is one of the most botanically rich mountains in the Dinaric Alps, home to over 1,500 plant species including 13 endemics found nowhere else on Earth. The park shelters chamois, wild boar, wolves, and a rich birdlife including golden eagles and peregrine falcons that nest on the limestone cliffs.

Responsible Travel
Several hiking routes ascend Biokovo from the Riviera villages below — choosing to walk up rather than drive reduces emissions and gives you a far more complete experience of the mountain's dramatic ascent.
Biokovo's endemic species are irreplaceable. Never pick flowers or disturb vegetation — stay on the marked paths and keep noise low to avoid disturbing nesting birds on the cliff faces.
Summer temperatures on exposed karst can be extreme. Set off at sunrise to reach the summit in cooler conditions, protecting both your safety and reducing the impact of concentrated visitor numbers at the Skywalk.
Perfect Timing
Biokovo rewards every season with different beauty, but spring and autumn are the finest times to visit — wildflowers carpeting the karst in May, golden light and chamois sightings in October.

September - October
Crystal-clear views, wildlife activity, golden Riviera below
Summer heat on exposed karst above 1,000 metres can be intense. Spring and autumn offer far more comfortable conditions for hiking and summit attempts
The Biokovo Skywalk is extremely popular in summer — visiting in May or September means shorter queues and more time to absorb the astonishing view
Accommodation along the Makarska Riviera is more affordable in shoulder season — combine Biokovo hiking with relaxed coastal evenings at reduced cost
May and June bring Biokovo's endemic species into bloom — a truly spectacular sight across the karst terraces that botanists travel from across Europe to witness
Chamois, golden eagles, and other wildlife are easiest to spot in spring and autumn when the mountain is quieter and animals move more freely through the park
Hike the summit in the morning and swim in the warm Adriatic in the afternoon — the unique mountain-sea combination of the Makarska Riviera is at its best in shoulder season
Standing on the Biokovo ridge with the Adriatic spread below and the mountains of Bosnia rising behind you is an experience that defines what makes Dalmatia extraordinary. Come in shoulder season and have it to yourself.
